This recipe for making fake blood was stolen from Bruce Campbell's book, "If Chins Could Kill." It is the recipe that Sam Raimi used in the movie "The Evil Dead."
I have used this recipe for blood on nearly every shoot I have done and I have never seen any theater blood or any other recipe come close to being as good as this. Real looking, thick, looks great on camera.
An interesting side note: This stuff will stain but if you get it on something, I suggest rubbing the stain down with Aristocrat Vodka. It sounds insane but trust me, it works.
6 Pints of Karo Syrup 3 Pints red food coloring 1 Pint non-dairy creamer 1 drop blue food coloring Large Ceramic Bowl Medium Sized Bowl Spoon Cleaning Products ==================
1.) The Karo Syrup is the foundation of the blood. Pour bottles into large bowl.
2.) In medium bowl stir non-dairy creamer until it turns into nice paste.
3.) Fold dairy paste into Karo Syrup.
4.) Add red food coloring. Add blue drop for density.
5.) SPLATTER!

If you need smaller quantities of fake blood, the recipe I used for my zombie film in high school was one bottle of light corn syrup, a bottle of red food coloring, and chocolate syrup to darken. Pour out about a third of the corn syrup, pour in the food coloring, shake, and add chocolate syrup to adequate darkness. You may need to pour out more of the first mixture to make room for enough chocolate syrup, depending on how dark you want the blood. I like that mixture in that it's thick, but not unrealistically so, and if you need to have blood in your mouth, it's not very unpleasant because it tastes like chocolate.

I've found a lot of recipies on the internet for fake intestines made with rice paper, condoms, etc. My advice? Just suck it up and go buy raw meat scraps from the deli. You can hold them to an actor with duct tape, and they can be ripped and torn to great realistic effect. And since they ARE real meat, they look real.
